I’m running for re-election to keep building schools where every child is supported, every family belongs, and every student can succeed.

Meet Katelyn Brazer Aceves

As a first-generation college graduate with a Master’s degree, I understand how important education is to our local families. I am passionate about investing in our youth so they can excel in education, career, and life.

Serving on the SAUSD Board has been an honor. Together, we are delivering real progress for our students and schools. Our district is now showing academic growth on the California School Dashboard because we prioritized timely supports for students and teachers. We secured a historic $355 million school bond to modernize campuses, expanded early literacy and small-group instruction, strengthened English Learner programs, and sustained counselors at every elementary school to support student well-being.

I also championed a districtwide Immigrant Support Plan reaching more than 21,000 families with clear policies, staff training, food assistance, and Know Your Rights workshops. We elevated student voice by welcoming Student Board Members and launching student-led Voter Registration Weeks, empowering thousands of students to participate in civic life. Through initiatives like Our Stories Unite Us!, we strengthened family engagement and built stronger bridges between home and school.

I am committed to representing our local community as SAUSD Trustee and look forward to continuing our work together to support every student and every family.

PRIORITIES

Improving Academic Achievement

During Katelyn’s first term on the school board, SAUSD achieved districtwide academic gains across the California School Dashboard for the first time. She led efforts to bring literacy coaches to every elementary school, strengthen rigorous coursework opportunities and supports for English Learners, and increase college and career readiness through internships, expanded dual enrollment, and improved AP exam pass rates.

Securing New Partnerships & Resources for Our Schools

Under her leadership, SAUSD secured a new partnership with UC Irvine at Monroe Elementary, bringing significant investment and expertise to strengthen teaching and learning. As a lab school, Monroe will serve as a model to study effective practices and scale them to other schools.

Elevating Student and Parent Voice & Expanding Resources for Families

Drawing on her decade of experience working with immigrant students and families, Katelyn led the creation of SAUSD’s districtwide Immigration Support Plan, establishing protocols, staff training, and resources to ensure students and families feel safe, supported, and focused on learning. Under her leadership, SAUSD also created the Family Leadership and Community Connection Advisory to elevate parent and family voice, as well as two Student Board Member positions to give students a direct voice in district decisions.

Strengthening Fiscal Transparency

Katelyn directed the establishment of the SAUSD Community Budget Advisory Committee to strengthen parent and community voice in district financial transparency and accountability. She has also secured essential no-cost community partnerships that bring additional resources to students and families without relying on district general funds, allowing more dollars to remain focused on classroom instruction.

Modernizing Our Schools

Under her leadership, voters overwhelmingly approved the largest K–12 school bond in Orange County in 2024, securing more than $355 million to modernize aging schools and provide safe, high-quality learning environments for students and staff. Additionally, the District has secured funds from the state of CA for school renovations.

For the last ten years, Katelyn has served our students and families in Santa Ana demonstrating her leadership and dedication to our community. She has worked in our schools, in our neighborhoods, and our community centers to provide educational workshops and resources. Katelyn is passionate about expanding educational opportunities for our students and I am confident that she is the right candidate to join the school board.
